- Gardner Read
- Steven Powell's Engraving Music Today, which is specifically geared to Computer users, with examples from both Finale and Sibelius, and both informative and entertaining!
- Alfred Publishing's 'pocket-sized' Dictionary of Music
- Ted Ross It's a bit old - pre-computer, but gives a good overview of engraving, what went into the process, and is helpful in thinking about how we lay out scores. It was, in its time, a “how to” book, and now is something of a “how it was”; but while the method has changed, the conventions and rules are still applicable.
- Kurt Stone's Music Notation in the 20th Century - good index
